x+why backs female founders with new
“Build the Future” initiative
NEWS / 25 MARCH 2026
Premium workspace provider x+why has announced a new initiative designed to provide practical, ongoing support to female founders across the UK - one that, unsurprisingly, hits close to home for a female-founded platform like Flex and The City. Here’s everything it entails...
While plenty of initiatives tend to orbit a single day in March with International Women’s Day, the B Corp-certified operator is introducing “Build the Future” - a monthly programme aimed at addressing the very real resource gap still facing female-led businesses.
At its core, the initiative revolves around access - not just to x+why’s network of spaces, but to the tools and platforms that are often out of reach for early-stage founders. From May through to December, eight lucky female founders will be selected to receive a monthly support package, including use of high spec meeting rooms for investor pitches and strategy sessions, dedicated event space to host their own events, and time in a professional podcast studio at x+why’s Arding & Hobbs site in Clapham Junction.
Set against a backdrop of continued imbalance in funding, the initiative feels particularly well placed. Despite progress, female founders in the UK still receive just 2p for every £1 of investment, with only 3.5% of equity funding going to women-led businesses. The focus here is on early-stage founders building momentum with limited resources - those running lean teams but looking to scale, connect and raise their profile.
Speaking on the launch, COO Cassandra Tucker emphasised the importance of consistency over one-off gestures: "We recognise that growth doesn't happen in a single day, and didn’t want to just celebrate International Women’s Day for 24 hours. By offering these resources every month for the rest of the year, we are providing a consistent platform for female-led businesses to scale, record, and connect".
In many ways, the initiative taps into a broader shift within the flex space sector - one that sees operators increasingly stepping into a more active role in supporting the businesses within their buildings, rather than simply just housing them.
And while access to capital remains a structural challenge, programmes like this one point to another another significant lever at play: environment, visibility and community. Because for early-stage founders - particularly those operating outside traditional funding networks - proximity to the right spaces and high-calibre networks can play a critical role in growth. “Build the Future” is a step towards making that more consistent
