Take a Tour: General People,
Hornsey Town Hall

FEATURES / 19 JANUARY 2026

Come and take a tour with us of Hornsey Town Hall - a North London landmark reborn for a new era. At the heart of Crouch End, its art-deco grandeur meets a vibrant contemporary campus, brought to life by General People, where culture, community, and work converge.

First opened in 1935, the Grade II listed Town Hall has long stood as a civic and cultural cornerstone for the borough. Today, its iconic art deco façade and modernist detailing provide the backdrop for a carefully reimagined destination - one where work, art, food, performance and community come together under one historic roof.

A workspace routed in character

At the centre of the Town Hall’s working life is the site's dedicated coworking hub, operated by General People. Above, the first and second floors are home to private suites rich in original character - from intricate detailing to soaring ceilings - a setting made for creatives and independents who crave character over corporate.

Memberships span hot desks through to private studios, alongside access to meeting rooms, breakout zones and a thriving social calendar. A particular highlight? Perched on the third floor, a self-contained loft suite offers a more private setup - light-filled, fully fitted and complete with its own meeting room and kitchen, just steps from the rooftop terrace.

After hours

Beyond the workspace, Hornsey Town Hall is shaping up to become a social destination in its own right. The ground floor will soon host an all-day café, set alongside the historic Assembly Hall, anchoring the Town Hall’s social life.

Upstairs, the rooftop terrace comes with its own bar and sweeping views across Crouch End - an easy go-to for after-work drinks, private events, or a moment of calm above the streets below.

Performance, events & culture

Few buildings can truly rival Hornsey Town Hall’s cultural legacy - and its event spaces are second to none.

The Assembly Hall, once a backdrop to early gigs by Queen, returns as a 3,860 sq ft auditorium complete with retractable seating, stage wings and dressing rooms. It’s a flexible venue built to host everything from concerts and theatre productions to weddings and large-scale celebrations.

Elsewhere, the Council Chamber offers a more intimate counterpoint. With original fixed seating, a viewing gallery and striking acoustics, it lends itself naturally to talks, lectures, ceremonies and smaller-scale performances.

For more private occasions, the Committee Room and Function Room offer adaptable layouts ideal for workshops, board meetings, private dining or filming - contemporary in feel, yet layered with period detail.

Beyond the walls, the Town Hall Square will host markets, festivals, outdoor dining and community events, reinforcing its role as a true neighbourhood anchor. And yes, there’s even a hotel next door.

A new chapter begins

With nearly a century of history behind it - and an entirely new future ahead - Hornsey Town Hall’s revival marks a significant moment for North London.

Blending heritage architecture with contemporary workspace, cultural programming and social spaces, General People’s latest campus is set to become one of the capital’s most compelling mixed-use destinations.
